Foodie/Boozy Review: The Mustard Pot

Updated: Jul 11, 2019

"Al Fresco British beer garden haven"

June 2019 - Kimberley Clough & Ash McVeagh

One mid summer eve in June, we adventured in to a stunning premises in the heart of Chapel Allerton. Encapsulated in a Wimbledon sized beer garden haven, decked out ready for the swankiest festival is the beautiful - The Mustard Pot

Our evening commenced camped out in front of an amazing Gin Shed, with 2 refreshingly made Gin inspired copas, recommended and shaken by the skills of Anna-Marie from behind the bar. Hendricks Summer Solstice, packed with ice and topped with fever tree tonic left us with a refreshingly boozy kick start to the night ahead- well....one of us!

A pergola cocktail den accompanies The Mustard Pots No.1 court beer garden, enticing you in to get comfy with the next drink. Kim our Chief Beauty & lifestyle Reviewer (at week 38 of 39 of her pregnancy journey) was taking full advantage of the alcohol free section of the menu, and loved the Traditional Raspberry Lemonade tipple, topped with fresh mint aromas.

The interior of The Mustard Pot screams out "grand, inviting and get me comfy" We had a lovely welcome from Verity & the team working that night, and we chose to sit next to the fireplace with views outside and through to the bar and main restaurant area.

Chandeliers hovering above us, Gin Copas mid way through supping, we were ready to get stuck in to The Mustard Pots modern British Summer cuisine.

Hello halloumi!

The chunkiest and juiciest halloumi fries you will find this summer, dunk these bad boys in the harissa yoghurt dip, and cleanse with a pocket of fresh salad and dressing- Yes!

Scotch egg, on a bed of truffle oil mushrooms, soft sourdough and parmesan sprinklings, presented like a piece of art by the chefs Miguel & Domitri, what a beauty second dish to conclude our first course. We knew we were in for a treat after two brilliantly British plates.

On to the main event, and to a dish straight from the sea, boasting colours of the ocean and a tropical paradise, not to mention the perfect hints of an alfresco barbequed catch of the day skewer. It was like Tarbetts Fish Mongers and The Mustard Pot had just dropped anchor, fired up the coals, and prepared a pineapple, sweetcorn & fresh foliage

inspired salad directly on the beach in front of us- superb, and one of the highlights of our evening.

You can tell that the team at The Chapel Allerton Blog love an egg, especially a hens egg, and one that comes on a bed of pineapple relish, and a pork chop that looks like this.

Chunky Chips were the perfect accompaniment, balancing out the freshness from the tropical paradise catch of the day salad, we were chuffed with our choices from the menu.

Elizabeth, Anna- Marie & Verity were making the evening flow, candles igniting at 7.30, pop up choir guests arriving for a class upstairs, the vibe in the restaurant was fantastic.

Top chef Miguel heading up the kitchen for the night was showing off his perfect pie making skills! We nipped upstairs to see the kitchen in action whilst excited for the dessert choice ahead!

Sweet tooth lovers alert:

Floating on a smooth caramel sauce positioned on a baked cheesecake were these beauty white chocolate crumb nibblets-something we have not come across before, making a dreamy finishing plate. We were fighting after the last crumb just to get those flavours on the spoon!

The Verdict: Indoor and outdoor space to die for, Al fresco, and fine dining indoor British restaurant ambience, with a summer menu that hits all of those notes. Superbly presented dishes

We cant wait to come back and make our way through what The Mustard Pot has to offer with the rest of the dishes on offer, and of course the rest of the Gin Cocktails!

The Hosts: What a great team we met, a passionate and inspiring front of house team headed up by Ian & Verity and upstairs in the Kitchen Miguel working his magic standing in for Head Chef Tim, thank you!

Congratulations to Kim our Chief Beauty & Lifestyle Reviewer who gave birth 4 days later to her second baby, little Emilia Jayne on 30/06/19. We timed it just right to have a fabulous evening experience at The Mustard Pot that week. Kim & Emilia Jayne are doing great.

The Mustard Pot has a MASSIVE SUMMER LINE UP!

The annual Mustard Stock music festival is just around the corner, Friday 12th- Sunday 14th July, with live music, gin shed, and food being served all weekend, we can't wait to get involved. Money being raised for St Gemma's hospice, this is an event not to miss
